For power electronics, high temperature and high voltage applications, where Si
fails, SiC and GaN are increasingly gaining momentum are there any other materials being tested for these applications?
Diamond substrate is being tested these days. Also one may consider MEMS or NEMS, nano-electronic mechanical system. According to my knowledge, some groups have already been able to make nano-scale MEMS device on Si substrate. It's naturally a high-voltage operating device. But I am not sure if it can conduct high current as it's switched on.
